Dr Katherine Cummins is a clinical haematologist who cares for patients with a wide range of blood disorders, with a particular focus on acute leukaemia, myelodysplastic syndromes, bone marrow transplantation and CAR T-cell therapy.
Katherine trained at The Alfred and Austin Hospitals in Melbourne before travelling to the United States to complete a PhD at the University of Pennsylvania, focussed on the development of CAR T-cell therapies. Since returning to Melbourne in 2020, she has worked in clinical and research roles at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and The Royal Melbourne Hospital. She has recently joined Austin Health, where she is helping to develop the Hospital-in-the-Home program for haematology patients.
Katherine brings together specialist clinical expertise, research experience and a warm, considered approach to patient care. She is particularly interested in improving access to modern treatments, including cellular therapies and early phase clinical trials, while ensuring patients and families feel supported and well informed throughout their care.
Katherine welcomes referrals for patients with malignant haematological conditions, including acute leukaemia and myelodysplasia, as well as patients requiring advice regarding allogeneic bone marrow transplantation or complex haematology care. She is available for in-person and Telehealth consultations. Katherine is also a VAD qualified practitioner and is available for consulting assessments in the field of haematology.
