He is a clinical Professor at the Australian Centre for Blood Diseases (ACBD), Central Clinical School, Monash University. He is Chair of the Clinical Trials group of The Thrombosis and Haemostasis Society of Australia and New Zealand (THANZ) and Chair of the Gene and Novel Therapies (GETS) committee, Australian Haemophilia Centres Directors’ Organisation (AHCDO)
He completed his medical degree at Monash University and his dual fellowships in Clinical & Laboratory Haematology at Monash and Melbourne Health in Melbourne. He spent two years at McMaster University, Canada pursuing clinical research in thrombotic disorders before returning to Australia to complete his Master of Clinical Epidemiology. In 2016 he spent months at Hospices Civils de Lyon, France exploring advances in congenital bleeding disorder therapies.
Practice Interests
Prof Tran’s focus is on clinical research in haematology with particular interests in the management of venous thromboembolism (VTE) and its complications, congenital haemophilia, rare bleeding disorders, immune platelet disorders and novel therapeutics, as well as obstetrics haematology. He has been a principal investigator in over 70 trials in these areas, has over 130 peer reviewed publications with >8300 citations. He supervises PhD candidates and advanced haematology trainees and has lectured widely in the Asia-Pacific region. He works with local, national and international advisory boards, and disease-specific advocacy groups to advocate for novel therapies to improve patient outcomes. He contributes to the World Health Organisation (WHO) and World Federation of Haemophilia (WFH) to improve care in low- and middle-income countries.
.
